EV Car Charging Cost

Are you thinking of making the electric switch? Curious about the costs of charging EV cars? We’re diving into all the details at Woodhouse Hyundai of Omaha.

Charging Options

There are three levels available when charging an EV:

  • Level 1 chargers are 120 volts, a standard household outlet.
  • Level 2 chargers are 240 volts; these can be installed at home and are the most common public charging stations.
  • Level 3 DC Fast Chargers are 480 volts or more and are found only at select public fast-charging stations.

Installing a Level 2 Charger at Home

Although you can install a Level 2 charger at your home, a professional should complete this. While it can vary, it costs about $2,000 for parts and installation. There are often rebates and incentives for EV owners to install home chargers to help you save on costs.

Charging at Home

When charging at home, the charging cost depends on your electricity costs. Your charging costs will depend on the rate you pay for a kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. You should be able to find this info on a recent electric bill.

Typically, charging overnight at home with a Level 2 charger is the most affordable way to charge. Electricity costs are usually the lowest at night. In fact, some utility companies provide special low rates for the overnight period.

Complimentary Charging Available

When you purchase or lease a new all-electric Hyundai vehicle, you’ll get complimentary charging at any Electrify America® fast-charging station. Hyundai KONA Electric owners will get up to 250 kWh of DC fast charging (over three years) or approximately 1,000 miles. Hyundai IONIQ 5 owners receive two years of 30-minute DC fast charging sessions.
