What Is a Crossover?

A crossover is a larger vehicle, but it’s built in a similar way to a small car. They are often constructed on the same platform as sedans and similar models, and they’re of “unibody” construction, meaning that the body and chassis are one structure.

As a result, these models handle more like cars. They may offer a smoother driving experience and better fuel efficiency than the typical SUV would.=

They are often lighter and can be made safer with “crumple zones” as well. These models offer a “best of both worlds” situation, delivering some of the advantages of driving a small car alongside the perks of an SUV, like a larger cargo area and more advanced capabilities.

What Is an SUV?

An SUV is built like a truck, with body-on-frame construction. This makes them more rugged and capable. Generally, these models are built to go off-road and tackle all sorts of terrain. They may also be capable of towing heavier loads than a similarly sized crossover would be.

Some think that the 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a body-on-frame SUV, but this three-row model doesn’t fit the technical definition. No Hyundai model does, but that may change in the near future!
